Dennis Ferrill, Chief Executive Officer, Board Member: Dennis joined APS in 2006 after fifteen years as an independent adviser, specializing in strategy and finance with a focus on medical and scientific publishing. Before this, Dennis worked for the Boston Consulting Group in Boston and New York, for Morgan Stanley, Inc. as a mergers and acquisitions specialist, and for a closely held global private equity investment group. Dennis earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the California Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree at the Harvard Business School. Dennis is a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center Patient and Family Advisory Council.


John Harrington, Founder and Chief Mission Officer: John co-founded APS in 1993 after completing his training as a board certified medical illustrator. He is one of fewer than two hundred board certified medical illustrators worldwide. He has acted as a courtroom expert witness in obstetrics, orthopedics, and neurology, and has been a contributing illustrator to a variety of texts along with publications including the New England Journal of Medicine, Boston Globe, Fortune Magazine, and Lawyer’s Alert. He has also presented at a range of continuing medical and legal education seminars and events throughout the country. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Boston University. Prior to founding APS, he was employed by Harvard Medical School. He is a Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education faculty member and a member of both the Association of Medical Illustrators and the Massachusetts Association of Trial Attorneys.

Timothy Croke, Founder and Vice President, and General Manager, Demonstrative Evidence Group: Tim co-founded APS in 1993 and was responsible for all phases of company operations. As the company matured, Tim became increasingly involved in sales of litigation support services. Today Tim is responsible for all DEG operations and heads its customer relationship management function. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts.

Amelia Newbury, Chief Operating Officer: Amelia joined APS in 2008 after four years at Monitor Group as the Chief Operations Officer of eMonitor, where she provided strategic management and guidance for the creation of online content to leverage Monitor’s intellectual property. Amelia was previously the Director of Technology and Product Development for Harvard Business School Publishing’s Corporate Learning division. Prior to joining Harvard, Amelia was the Assistant Director for Cornell University’s Office of Distance Learning. Amelia holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and holds several U.S. patents in the learning and technology arena.

Bob Higgins, Board Member: Bob is a Founding General Partner at Highland Capital Partners and has more than twenty-five years of experience in venture capital. He has served as a director of many public and private companies. He is a former director of the National Venture Capital Association and President of the New England Venture Capital Association. In addition, Bob has been recognized by the prestigious Forbes Midas List and AlwaysOn Venture Capital 100 as one of the top venture capitalists in the industry. He has been a faculty member at the Harvard Business School since 2001 and teaches at the Kennedy School of Government. He received the 2008 HBS Healthcare Alumni Achievement Award. Prior to entering venture capital, he spent four years as the Executive Director of the John A. Hartford Foundation. He also was the Chief Executive of the Clark Foundation and the Burden Foundation. Bob is a former Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce and an Assistant to the head of the international division of the U.S. Treasury. Additionally, Bob is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Research Advisory Council, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Bob has an Artium Baccalaureus from Harvard College and an Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Jeff Stolte, Board Member: Jeff is an investment professional at Ascension Health Ventures since 2007, was previously a member of Ascension Health’s Strategic Development Group where he contributed to numerous system-level strategic initiatives and business development activities. Jeff focuses primarily on healthcare technology investments for AHV, given his past experience in product management and business development roles for entrepreneurial healthcare technology companies WebMD, WellMed and HealthLanguage (formerly CyberPlus). Jeff has previously served as a board observer for AHV portfolio companies CHF Solutions and OptiScan Biomedical Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science in Medical Informatics degree from the Oregon Health & Science University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
