Boston, MA, December, 2010—Healthcare Finance News has released an article titled, “California health system reaps $1M in health insurance liability rebate.” Authored by Senior Editor Diana Manos, the article highlights how the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) received a $1.1M rebate from BETA, their liability insurer, for improving patient safety.
In October of 2010, BETA and APS partnered to provide BETA hospitals with OB-intensive patient safety education that yields better patient care, improved staff communications, and an opportunity for hospitals to reduce liability costs (see original press release). SVMHS participated in the initiative and demonstrated 100% compliance with all elements of APS’s continuing education program, including Advanced Fetal Assessment and Monitoring (AFAM), Operative Vaginal Delivery (OVD), Managing Shoulder Dystocia (MSD), and SBAR+R.
The $1.1M rebate SVMHS received from BETA values the return on investment of APS education at nearly 2,500%.
